Video: RNC Chairman Michael Steele doesn't do policy, but he sure tries hard

Remember the days when most people, even those who are politically curious, didn't know there even was an RNC Chair because this position did not come with any real power? I think that Michael Steele really makes life more interesting.

It also seems like a very rough day when when you are a Republican, and Joe Scarborough is challenging your thinking.

Think Progress examines Steele's four points, as follows:

1) Portability is a key feature of Obama’s health care plan. Anyone who enters into the new national health insurance exchange would be able to purchase insurance that stays with them, even if they switch jobs.

2) Steele says he’s for co-ops, by which he presumably means “association health plans.” AHPs wouldn’t help cover the uninsured, but would increase the costs of coverage and would allow selected small businesses to operate outside state regulations.

3) Steele’s tax proposal would mean that young and healthy workers would opt out of employer plans for cheaper coverage, meaning employers could no longer meet participation requirements to purchase insurance. The whole insurance system would slowly unravel, leaving even more people without care.

4) Steele’s proposal of tort reform addresses only 0.46 percent of total health care expenditures.

This TPM Video, or Yesterday in 100 Seconds, kind of shows Michael Steele not doing policy, and the bonus is, it's kind of gut tickling funny too. Well, maybe the gut tickling part is just me.

I will give Michael Steele one minor kudos.
He is a likable face of the GOP. Funny, and from time to time, and very, very likable.

Inside 'The Bubble' & Taking a Chance on Torture

Still listening. Still don't anderstand the defense of torture argument, but still listening.

Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski notes that Obama administration officials say that intelligence can be gathered without using torture. "What Robert Gibbs is saying on 'Meet the Press' yesterday, was that they don't know whether other means may be able to get the same information," she said.

"I'm not. Go ahead. Take that chance," scoffed Scarborough. "Sometimes you have a reason to be fearful," he said. "There is irrational fear and then rational fear. If you live in a neighborhood where people's homes get broken into and people get shot and killed at night and their items get stolen, and you're fearful that may happen to you, that's not irrational. That is fear and you will support a stronger police presence in your home. If this country got attacked the way it did on September 11th, 2001, it is not irrational for Americans to fear it might happen again when you have al Qaeda wanting to do nothing but kill all of us, destroy our cities." source: Crooks and Liars

Chickening Out: Nobel Laureates Paul Krugman on Depression Era economics

Professor Krugman schools the Morning Joe screw on economics. In the end it seems that the punditry crowd knows better than the Nobel Laureate Economist dude.

Go figure.

Pat Buchanan is always funny though.

Joe Scarborough. Not so much. If the Democratic Party symbol were not a Donkey, I would call Joe one.

We aren't balancing the budget right now Joe. We are using the power of the government to stimulate the economy. Get with the program.

Morning Joe Quote --"You can't blame what is happening now in Israel on the Bush Administration."

It's not Bush's fault. It's not. Bah!

Anyone who has lived during the last 30 to 40 years can remember what productive engagement in foreign policy by American Presidents has accomplished.

Carter made an astonishing peace accord between Israel and Egypt that stands today.

Nixon changed the relationship between the United States and China with engagement.

We all know that Reagan ended the 'cold war' with the Soviets.

None of these Presidents had perfect records and there were stains on each, but they each did something remarkable with respect to foreign policy, notwithstanding any disagreement about the value of respective legacies.

They did something.

Joe is probably right. We can't really blame the current violence and crisis in Gaza on George W. Bush.

It's too bad those other Presidents set a standard though. It does make the 43rd look pretty bad, even if it is not his fault.

Morning Joe Co-Host, Mika Brezinski Held Up For $6 By D.C. Mugger

Not a good way to start a morning. Joe Scarborough was understandably outraged. It just so happened that the Mayor of Washington D.C. was a guest on the show this morning to talk about the innaguaration and education.

As the show began, Mr. Scarborough blasted Washington without naming the hotel, saying he needed to talk about what had just happened to his co-host.

Mrs. Brzezinski said she was embarrassed and didn't want him to tell viewers about the experience, but he detailed the mugging and complained the bell desk should have been paying attention.

"A guy walks across the street straight for her," Mr. Scarborough said, adding the hotel should "at least police five feet outside their own doors." Mrs. Brzezinski said she gave the mugger the $6 in cash she had with her, adding that he asked her for $20 and said something along the lines of "Give me money and nothing will happen." source: The Washington Times

Morning Joe says 'Blah blah blah blah blah' and one response is Paddy's 'Dear Joe Scarborough' letter

I am unable to watch Joe Scarborough in the morning due to the time required to warm up my Big Yellow School Bus, and living conditions that disables television viewing in the early morning hours that only serves to drive other household members stark raving mad from time to time.

I am however, extremely grateful for the position I am in, in that I do not feel obliged to be exposed to any commentary from Joe Scarborough, especially during this period of scandal and high drama in the State of Illinois.

I am further pleased as punch to know that there are those who are keeping an eye on the banter on the airwaves, while pointing out the errors in thinking and outrageous rationalizations.

Thanks Paddy. I thought you were really polite too. Well, except for the 'ass' thing at the very end, but still a multitude of thanks, but even with that last comment you stayed accurate.

Dear Joe Scarborough

Hey, it's me. I know you're busy manufacturing outrage and hot air over this whole Blagojevich thing, but I wanted to set your mind to ease on one little point.

You're going on and on (I presume it's a Rush talking point) over the "fact" that (and I paraphrase), "We sent 20 reporters to Wasilla, Alaska to dig into Sarah Palin but sent none to Chicago to dig into Obama".

Chicago is a major metropolitian city in the United States. Here is a link to the media in that city (much of it investigative award winning). Sometimes Chicago is even called "The Second City"! Imagine that. Wasilla Alaska has the Mat Su Valley Frontiersman, and a guess to the circulation of the paper would be less than the population of the city, so somewhere under 10,000.

I'd think there were plenty of reporters in Chicago willing to make their careers by uncovering any untoward activity by Obama (Remember the broohaha over releasing the Annenberg papers? Sure you do.) So, to summarize, there were plenty of reporters, time and effort put into investigating Obama's activity in Chicago and they came up with nothing.

Oh, and you're an ass.

Oh my Goodness! Gracious me! Scarborough drops the 'F' bomb on air!

Dang! Double dang even!

FCC Fines for the F Word

From a 2006 Washington Post article: ...The FCC's fines for indecency have risen steadily: a mere $4,000 in 1995, then $48,000 in 2000, then $440,000 in 2003 and finally a whopping $7.9 million in 2004. President Bush signed a bill last week increasing by tenfold the maximum fine for indecency on radio or TV, to $325,000. for source - click here
I wouldn't be doing that again if I were you Joe.

A 'below average' American, a Peon in the heartland speaks her mind

I am just an average American. On many levels I am a 'below average' American. I keep watching these dingbats on msnbc analyzing the Democratic convention and the level of attack, or lack thereof by the Democrats.

When this is all said and done and the Democrats do have control, the ultimate goal is to unite the people of the United States. When I canvass and phone bank on behalf of the Campaign for Change of Barack Obama, I am talking to my neighbors, my friends, my community. We don't agree on everything, but I would like once this is over for all of us to be able to unite behind a President and I believe that President will be Barack Obama.

We can slice and dice the Republicans all we want. It seems to me when Democrats take the stance or tact of a 'Karl Rove' attack, it doesn't work for them either.

Pat Buchanan ran for President and never made it. Joe Scarborough was in Congress and he isn't any longer. Tell me again why we listen to these people so intently? They do from time to time have good and valuable information and opinions that are interesting to roll around in the mind. I don't think Democrats becoming more like Republicans at this time in our history is going to make this country great again, and united behind a common purpose.

Peace and Love,
